Between Two Memories

Ali Arkady, the Iraqi photojournalist and artist, participated in the exhibition "The Pain of Others" at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague. This exhibition ran from December 8, 2022, to April 16, 2023, and was curated by Leoš Válka, Otto M. Urban, Michaela Šilpochová, Tomáš Glanc, and Stefano Carini. The exhibition drew inspiration from Susan Sontag's essay Regarding the Pain of Others (2003), exploring how art can convey the horrors of war and violence to those who haven't directly experienced them.
Arkady's work was showcased alongside pieces by renowned artists such as Francisco Goya, Robert Capa, Christian Boltanski, and Andres Serrano. His contributions focused on documenting the human cost of conflict, particularly in Iraq, reflecting his commitment to bearing witness to war crimes and the suffering of civilians.
